Another Damn Pitbull Attack

Hallie is recovering from another attack. While returning home from a walk, a pit bull pushed her way underneath a closed gate and charged straight for her throat. Through some combination of my efforts, the belated action of the dog owner, and the Power of Universal Love, Hallie sustained serious, but not life-threatening puncture wounds to her side. She remains on antibiotics, and her wounds require twice daily draining and cleaning.

I know all pit bulls are not bad dogs. In fact, they are mostly, deliberately, often cruelly, trained to be that way. (Monkey-people are no different.) Still, I encourage all of you to be wary of any you see until you have excellent reasons for behaving differently.

Cleo was attacked by a young pit bull when I was walking her one night on the near northside of Pittsburgh. It hit her from behind so hard that she came out of her collar. As the pit bull came in her direction again, I kicked it as hard as I could just as its young owner ran up and restrained the dog. Unfortunately, Cleo was so scared that she ran into the middle of very busy Cedar Avenue and was barely missed by a city bus. I've had a tough time loving pit bulls ever since.

I am SO sorry to hear of Hallie's travails, and I hope her wounds heal quickly.

Hallie,

My monkey-person left me with his daughter for a few days so I've had time to think and worry about you. I hope your wounds, both physical and emotional, are healing well. My right rear leg doesn't work very well anymore since I tore something back there, but other than that...I feel great!

Pit Bulls have to be regulated for their own safety and for the safety of the public. There just is not any way around that anymore.
